BLURRING THE LINES

“Al Franken successfully introduced legislation that denies federal contracts to companies that have policies -- anywhere in the world -- that punish employees for complaining about rape or discrimination on the job. This is in response to a KBR/Halliburton employee in Iraq who was drugged and gang-raped by co-workers and denied justice or even medical treatment, then locked in a storage container for 24 hours and told that she'd lose her job if she left the country to get medical help. She was also prohibited from suing or seeking criminal justice because her Halliburton contract forbade seeking any justice apart from private arbitration.”

In English, government contract employees in the past have had to sign a contract that’s states, “they may not sue their company if they are sexually abused”. So, Mr. Franklin brought a bill that would not allow companies to have any employee sign such a preposterous agreement. One would think this is a no brainer, right? I am mean who wants rape victims to not have their day in court?? I had a naïve notion that this bill could be bipartisan…..clearly it wasn’t. I understand that we have a divided country, but really, at what cost are we going to continue to let political agenda’s take charge of moral correctness?

Shame on the Senators’ who opposed this bill; God for bid one of their daughters, nieces’, wives, mothers or any friend is raped. I am sure their tune would change, and it’s a sad state that, that’s what it will probably take. Doing the right thing should not be so difficult. I am revolted that any person in power would be against this bill. And I was under the impression that only surgeons had God-like complexes.
