Today’s topic of discussion was spurred by our recent economic situation. There was a great debate whether or not our Government should “rescue” certain financial intuitions, come to the aid of certain auto manufactures and we all know the outcome of that debate. What I find striking still about this debate, is why we hesitate to help “our own”, but don’t blink an eye when it comes to sweeping in and rescuing/saving other countries. Shouldn’t we lead by example?
Do not mistake me; I am not saying we shouldn’t give aid to others. I am more curious as to why we don’t make sure our homeless are fed first, why aren’t our children provided with the very best education, why our sick (without insurance) can basically sign their own death certificates, who’s rallying for them? Where are the celebrity hosted fundraisers for our people? The self-help section at any book store is filled with literature demanding that an individual must be whole with oneself before being able to give to others. Is that same theory not applicable to our society?...............................
Why are we so eager to fix the neighborhood, before we fix our own house?

Because it's always easier to fix other people' problems than our own. We are Americans.
