Fairyland

A few days ago I was watching an interview with a highly regarded actor. In the interview that actor made a statement that has been on auto-rewind in my mind for days. He stated, "I do not tell my little daughter she is a princess or do anything to give her the illusion that life is a fantasy". I found this statement interesting for many reasons.

First, let it be noted that I do respect this actor. Secondly, that I found irony in a man who makes his living off of selling "fantasy" to the public would make this statement (and whom himself, is living his "fantasy"). And yes, while I do agree that some go over board on the entire "princess" realm, should we stop telling our children to dream? I understand that life is not all lollipops and gumdrops, but if we don't give children a chance to dream, are we cutting them off at the knees? Would the statement caused less of a stir in me if a women had made it? Where is the balance in not crushing dreams and having a sense of reality???
